Leadership Characteristics in a Crisis
- blog29 Apr 2020
Leaders are not new to crisis management and these are the exact opportunities that leaders seek to exhibit their mettle. The current crisis has a unique distinction in that it is a common crisis faced by almost all leaders in the world at the same time. Leaders may have access to the strategies and approaches of other leaders, but it will be a lesson in leadership to see how each of them react in a common crisis.
If we look around the world, we see that the reactions from different nations have varied but many have followed the common path of denial, reluctant acceptance, and sudden lock-down. The timeline from the initial denial to the final shutdown follows the rate of infection and more so the mortality rate.
It may not be the right time to comment on the leadership of each nation combating the virus as only time will tell the real toll and the success or failure of each leadership style and strategy. While I see some common characteristics, I also see a few radical approaches too.
What do you think of the handling of the crisis by the following countries, It will be an interesting exercise to know your opinion.
India, Italy, USA, UK, Germany, China, Russia.
